Ergonomic Office Chairs
Ergonomic office chairs designed for Australian commercial workplaces. Every chair in this range is built for full-day seated work — proper lumbar support, adjustable mechanisms, and commercial-duty construction. Direct supply from our Melbourne warehouse, dispatched Australia-wide.
How to Choose an Ergonomic Chair for Your Office
The right chair depends on three things: how long staff will be sitting, the body sizes you need to accommodate, and the certification level your workplace requires. As a general rule:
- Under 4 hours/day seated: entry-level mesh task chairs (Vesta, Urban) handle the load.
- 4–8 hours/day seated: mid-range ergonomic chairs with adjustable lumbar and 4D armrests (Flow, Motion Sync, Aveya, Hartley Mid-Back).
- 8+ hours/day or 24/7 environments: AFRDI Level 6 certified chairs with heavy-duty mechanisms (Orca, Merida, Endeavour Pro).
- Users over 120 kg: heavy-duty rated chairs only (Endeavour Pro to 150 kg).
What AFRDI and BIFMA Certifications Actually Mean
"Ergonomic" has no regulatory meaning in Australia — any chair can call itself ergonomic. What matters is independent testing.
- AFRDI Level 6 — the highest Australian standard. Covers unrestricted commercial use, tested for full-cycle commercial duty. This is what you want for standard office environments.
- BIFMA X5.1 — the North American equivalent. Comparable testing rigour, widely recognised internationally.
- Greenguard Gold — low chemical emissions. Not a structural certification, but matters for indoor air quality in enclosed offices.
If a chair claims none of these, it has not been independently tested to a commercial standard. Read more in our complete ergonomic chair buying guide.
The Adjustments That Matter
A chair sold as ergonomic should give you, at minimum:
- Pneumatic seat height adjustment (155–195 cm user range)
- Adjustable seat depth (slider) — accommodates different leg lengths
- Height-adjustable lumbar support — must align with the natural lumbar curve
- 4D armrests — up/down, in/out, forward/back, swivel — to prevent shoulder tension
- Synchronised tilt with adjustable tension — back moves with the user, doesn't stay locked
- Optional headrest for taller users and call-heavy roles
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a task chair and an ergonomic chair?
All ergonomic chairs are task chairs, but not all task chairs are ergonomic. A task chair is any seated work chair. An ergonomic chair adds adjustable lumbar support, multi-axis armrests, synchronised tilt mechanisms, and is built to commercial-duty standards. If a chair lacks adjustable lumbar or has fixed armrests, it's a task chair, not ergonomic.
Are mesh chairs better than padded chairs?
Mesh chairs breathe better, which matters in warmer climates and longer sit times. They also tend to be more durable because there's no foam to compress. Padded chairs feel softer initially but compress over 2–3 years of commercial use. For full-day commercial use, mesh is generally the better choice.
How long should a commercial office chair last?
An AFRDI Level 6 chair under standard commercial use should last 7–10 years with normal wear. Entry-level chairs ($150–$300 range) typically last 3–5 years. Look for warranties: 5 years is standard for mid-range; 10 years indicates AFRDI Level 6 build quality.
Do you ship Australia-wide?
Yes. We dispatch from our Melbourne warehouse to every state and territory. Metro deliveries run 3–7 business days; regional and interstate 5–12 days. Bulk orders include freight quote at checkout.
Can I order one for trial before committing to a fleet?
Yes. Order a single unit through the website at standard pricing. For larger orders (10+ chairs of the same model), contact us at hello@yunoworkspace.com.au for volume pricing and a trial unit prior to committing.
What's the warranty on Yuno chairs?
Warranty varies by model. Entry-level chairs carry 2-year warranties. Mid-range chairs (Flow, Motion Sync, Aveya) carry 5-year warranties. AFRDI Level 6 chairs (Orca, Merida, Endeavour Pro) carry 10-year structural warranties. Full warranty terms are listed on each product page.
Are these chairs suitable for 24/7 environments (call centres, control rooms)?
For 24/7 multi-shift environments, choose AFRDI Level 6 certified chairs only — Orca, Merida, or Endeavour Pro. These are tested for unrestricted continuous use. Most other chairs in the range are commercial-rated but for single-shift use (8 hours/day, 5 days/week).
